Cross Country and Sport Info for Year 5 and 6 Term 3

Cross Country & Winter Sport
Year 5 & 6
Term 3 - 2010

Each year we select a team of 28 Year 5 & 6 children to represent our school at the Remuera Zone Inter School Cross Country.
Our time line that leads up to this event is as follows
Children start their own personal training in the holidays as well as participating in regular fitness sessions at school
Two practice runs are held over the One Tree Hill course on Tuesday 20 July and Friday 30 July.
The actual race is on Thursday 12 August in the paddock behind the Observatory. (The races will start as soon after 9:15 as we can organise our 200 children to move up there.)
Team is selected
Zone Cross Country is on the afternoon of Monday 23 August.

Parental assistance:
If you could assist us, by being a ‘human cone’ on any of the cross country dates mentioned below please tear off the slip on the letter sent home on 23 June and return to Jenni Jamieson in Room 28. If you send back a slip please make yourself known to me either outside the hall before we go to the park or in the park and you will be given a map with your designated spot marked.

What is wrong in this picture?

Children all need a change of clothes in order to play on the field. This of course means on sport afternoons all soccer and rugby players must come prepared.

Sport of some form is on every Tuesday in term 3.

All Whites Success

What an amazing game! Keeping Italy to a one-all draw is worthy of mention.

But also...

Did you know that Chris Wood who came so close to scoring a goal near the end of the game is an ex pupil of our school? He attended Royal Oak until Year 5 when his family shifted to Hamilton. Check out the photo of him in his last class, a Year 5/6 composite in room 22 in 2001. (It is on the Sport noticeboard)

Jump Rope

A reminder to you all - skipping ropes can now be ordered at school. They are only $5 each. The order will be placed with Jump Rope for Heart at the end of term so skipping ropes will be available for use early in Term 3.

Cross Country Training

The cross country for Year 5 and 6 is early in term 3 and it is important that all children now start some serious training.

We look forward to noticing how you are doing this in you own time when we read your Home Learning contract each week.

Remember you can train by jogging, skipping, bouncing on the trampoline or doing other exercises. Build up your stamina by gradually increasing the length of time you are exercising.

Zone Exchange

YES!!! We had a sport exchange today. Fine but cool weather prevailed so two bus loads of children and teachers headed off to the various venues. We also hosted St Kentigern for two soccer games and a rugby match.

We had a mixture of results... perhaps more losses that wins today, however we were once again complimented on our fine sportsmanship.

Thank you to the parents who supported us today and to those who also washed uniforms.

There are no more exchanges this term and we do not have a practice day in week 11.

Details of the term 3 programme will be distributed next week.

Cross Country Training

A committed group of parents and children of Year 5 & 6 meet each Tuesday and Thursday morning for a training session in Cornwall Park. The weather has been unpleasant on many mornings but the group are keen and know the importance of being prepared.

Thanks to Scott who motivates and organises the group.
