Flippa Ball

The Coordinator for the Epsom Flippa Ball league has approached me to see if we have any children who would be interested in making up a team to play in one of their competitions. Flippa Ball is a junior version of water polo.
They have a League running out of the Cameron Pool which happens on Sundays during terms 1, 2, 3, and 4.
If you are interested in helping to form a team for the children in our school please contact Jenni Jamieson - via email jennij@rops.school.nz and I will make inquiries to find out more details.

Grasshopper Tennis

For four Mondays this term the children in Year 1 have had tennis coaching sessions with Angela from Royal Oak Racquet's Club. It was great to see our smallest children having fun with a racquet and tennis ball.
As we have purchased the modified equipment required to develop the children's tennis skills they will have further sessions with their class teachers and Jonty.
Year 2 begin tennis coaching in week 2 term 2 for four weeks and this is also with Angela.

Rippa Rugby

Starting with the teachers having professional development earlier in the term, most of the classes across our school have now had Rippa Rugby skills sessions with a coach from Auckland Rugby.

It has been a fun experience for all. Many of the children in the after school care progamme watched with interest as their teachers had fun playing 'Rippa'.

Now we have had introductory sessions and have purchased the gear required to play the game the children will have further practice with their own teachers and Jonty.

Swimming Season is Over

During the night on Monday it poured and our hearts dropped because we knew there was no rain day for the Zone Swimming Sports. However we were fortunate because there wasn't a drop of rain on Tuesday.

Our 16 representatives who had trained regularly over the previous 4 weeks were fine representatives of our school.

Thank you Ryan, Adam, James, Eric, Lily, Kendall, Lauren, Jacqueline of Year 6 and James, Stephen, Jack, Christian, Sarah, Anna, Alice and Georgia of Year 5 for your hard work.

Congratulations to Eric and Ryan who were in the 25 metre breaststroke final, Christian who was in the 25 metre backstroke and 50 metre freestyle finals and Adam who was in a 50 metre freestyle final.

Thank you parents for the wonderful support we had during practices and for being at St Kentigern School to cheer us on.

Netball

This week Mrs Popovic and Mrs Jamieson met with children (both boys and girls) who might be interested in playing netball for school, in teams that play on
EITHER
  • Thursday after school at the Auckland Netball Centre playing Future Ferns rules
OR
  • Saturday morning at Mt Roskill Intermediate playing International rules.
The children who attended the meeting took home information about this and needed to have returned a notice of intention by Friday 11 March. An extension will be given till Monday however we are required to give team numbers to the different organisations now.

Summer Sport

Friday mornings are very busy around school for the Year 5/6 team as everyone is involved in sport.
Having experienced playing a variety of sports the children have now selected the sport they would like to play and possibly represent the school in for the Zone Field Day for summer sport which is to be held in week 10.
Teachers are looking closely at the ability of the children and they are assisting them to develop their skills and learn the rules of their chosen sport.
Soon after camp the teams will be selected and children notified and at that stage notices will be sent out giving the details of the field day.
