Remuera Zone Netball 'Field' Day

13 September @Auckland Netball Centre
Well done to all the netballers for a great effort in the face of erratic and disruptive weather!  All teams came up against some challenging opponents and continued to play with energy and enthusiasm.  The improvement in skills from game to game was evident, as was the enjoyment of the students.  A special congratulations to Year 6A for winning 2nd place in their grade!

Thank you to all the fantastic parents who helped to umpire and supervise throughout the season and on the day.  Without your help the day would not have been possible, nor would it have run so smoothly and we really appreciate it.

Athletics for Year Five and Six

With daylight saving just around the corner and the term coming swiftly to a close we are about to focus on Athletics.

This term it is planned that we will continue to have sport on a Tuesday afternoon but it will now be athletics. The children will practise sprints, relays, high jump, long jump and softball throw. All these events will be part of our programme on Athletics Day which is on Wednesday 9 November.

It is best for the children to bring a change of clothes - shorts and a t shirt.

The children will also practise athletics on other days during the week.

Non-competitive Hockey

The B and C Hockey teams competed in the non-competitive tournament held at the Auckland Grammar School turf.
Considering many of the players were new to hockey this year, it was impressive to witness the amount of effort, skill and strategies they incorporated into their games. Both teams benefited from the competition and as the day progressed became increasingly focussed on utilising the members of their team in order to combat the opposition and score goals.
Each team played 5 games initially and both teams went on to play in the semi-finals. The B team was placed 4th overall and the C team was placed 5th.

Non Competitive Soccer

The Year Five Soccer teams, had a fantastic day at Seddon Fields on Tuesday, despite the weather! A handful of the Year fives played in the competitive matches; one year five player even scored a hat trick!

The non-competitive teams, battled it out against some tough opposition. Team 1 won five of their matches, lost one and drew two. Whilst Team 2 won two, lost two and closely drew six games.

The teams and I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who helped with transport and came along to support, coach and even ref the occasional game.

RUGBY at ZONE

Congratulations to all rugby players that participated in the field day. Both teams played with determination and heart! There are no wins to report, but there were moments in time where we saw glimpses of real skill in action! Some great tackles, superb footwork and timely offloads. The All Blacks would’ve been proud of the Small Blacks of ROPS. A special thank you to Coach Roy and all the parents that came in support… your boys did us proud on and off the field.

Soccer Field Day

The Remuera Zone Field Day for Competitive and Non Competitive Soccer was held at Seddon Fields, Meola Road, Western Springs.

The 6A and 6B team both took part in the Competitive Field Day and performed very well despite the miserable windy and rainy conditions.

6A played 5 games in total. Lost 2, drew 2 and won 1. Came 9th place overall.

6B played 6 games. Lost 2, Won 1, Drew 3 and went to penalty shoot outs where we lost one. They came 7th place overall.

Thanks to all the fabulous parents who transported, supervised and coached our teams. Without your help the day would not have been possible or such a success.

Competitive Hockey Report - Remuera Zone

13 teams competed in the competitive hockey competition at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga on Tuesday 13 September, in the not so nice weather. The team performed very well and did both themselves and ROPS proud including the parents that were there.

The 13 teams were split into two pools and we had won all our pool games until we came to play Kings where we lost, by the least margin of all teams in our pool. This meant that we were second in our pool and were to play off for 3rd or 4th against the second place getter in Pool A. Pool A second place getter was only found after a count back of goals for and against to see who had the least goal difference.

The outcome was we had to play against Victoria Ave Primary School, with no less than 5 Auckland age group representatives! But in true ROPS spirit the kids saved their best game to last; we managed to slot the first goal but then Victoria Ave came back with two goals straight away. With about 2 minutes to go we managed to equalise so it was then up to the team to hold them, unfortunately Victoria Ave were awarded a penalty corner on the full time hooter, and this meant that it had to be played out before the game could finish and they slotted a goal. We lost 4 - 3 and therefore played 4th - a great effort after a magnificent game and the kids should be VERY proud of this performance.

Rippa Report

Our first ever foray into the world of Rippa Rugby competition happened today. What a great day? We were competing against 12 teams in a Year 5/6 tournament.
Placings being announced.

Our sixth place team.
The outcome - one team came second and the other team came sixth - a very creditable result after very few practices because of the tight time frame we had to meet.

Rippa Rugby

In this year of the Rugby World Cup we have taken the opportunity to enter two Year 5/6 teams in a Rippa Rugby tournament called the Challenge Cup Series. This is an Eastern Zone Tournament, which is a preliminary to a Regional Rippa Rugby World Cup Finals Tournament.

It is to be held on Wednesday 7th in Panmure.

The interest in trialling for this team has been high and with a very limited time before the tournament Stuart and Jonty have been extremely helpful in leading practices. Each team comprises 5 girls and 5 boys and at any one time there are 7 children on the field. There must however be 3 girls on the field.

We will share results after this day.

Sport Exchange Update 6 September

Unfortunately our Y6B soccer team will not be travelling as St Kentigern have insufficient numbers to make up a team.
They will instead have a practice game at school.
