Commonwealth GamesATHON Friday 3 September

Flags are ready, the Jump Jam routine is practised and the excitement is mounting.

Now we just hope that the weather is kind to us.

Timetable of events starting at approximately 9:15

Parade of nations which will be lead off by Barbados
Queen's Baton Relay
Opening of the Games
Jump Jam routine - whole school involved
Movement to begin the range of tabloid activities which will be arranged throughout the school.
Four rotations followed by a water and food break.
Five more rotations followed by a brief closing ceremony.

Parents who have volunteered to assist you have all been assigned to a team of children and you will move throughout the morning with that group.

Please encourage your children to earn sponsorship for our school ...we have all been working hard.

Year 5 and 6 Sport

There will be no winter sport in school on Tuesday 7 September.

The Zone Field Day is on 14 September and notification will be sent to children who are involved soon.

The following teams are travelling to Kings by bus for our final exchange.

We are finding many children are not remembering the gear required to play sport - children without gear will not have the opportunity to play.

Remuera Zone Cross Country

Unfortunately this event needed to be cancelled this morning.

We have had notification that the races are rescheduled for Monday 30 August at 12:30.

Parents who were going to assist with transport please notify Mrs Jamieson if you are unable to help next week.

Commonwealth GamesATHON

On Friday 3 September the whole school will be involved in our first Commonwealth GamesATHON.

There will be further details about the organisation for the day over the next week on the Blog.

Meanwhile we encourage the children to gain sponsorship and find out about the country they are going to represent.

Looking ahead to 24 August

Our next Year 5/6 exchange is against Remuera Primary on 24 August.

On this day three Year 6 netball teams will travel to Remuera.

Coming to us - 2 soccer teams, 1 rugby team and 2 hockey teams.

Games begin at 1:30.

Cross Country Results

Results of the races that were held on a fine Thursday morning in the paddock behind the Observatory at Cornwall Park.

The first seven placegetters in order are as follows:
Year 5 Girls: Kendall Vaughan, Jessica Shilton, Stella Pan, Sarah Morrison, Sunny Zou, Jacqueline Alexander, Carrie Long

Year 5 Boys: Hikaru Iizuka, Max Timmermans, Nicholas Wilson, Kamal McEntee-Amziane, Olwyn Read, Ezra Stitt, Tevita Ahokovi

Year 6 Girls: Charlotte Rowden, Yasmin Bell, Alexa Johansson-Latham, Jessica Long, Imogene Jones, Lauren van Emmerick, Verity Warn

Year 6 Boys: Jason de Heer, Niko Steinmetz, Matthew Anderson, Seadon D'Silva, Ivan Harris, Nicholas Sail, Callum McKenzie

These children will continue training as they work towards representing our school at the Remuera Zone cross country event on Monday 23 August at Shore Road rugby fields.

Thanks to the many parents who have assisted at each of our practices and on race day.

Tomorrow is the day.

Once we have completed the morning administration tasks we will organise the children to move up to the park.

We anticipate starting the races soon after 9:15.

We look forward to a fine morning. Children please wear shorts and a t-shirt, bring a sweatshirt and a water bottle.

Royal Oak v Meadowbank

Next Tuesday 10 August we have an exchange against Meadowbank.

We are sending two 12 aside rugby teams to play at College Rifles.

Both the soccer and netball will be held here at school.
3 soccer, 2 x Year 5 netball and 2 x Year 6 netball teams are visiting.

At Waiata Tennis Club there will be one hockey team from Meadowbank.

Games start at 1.30pm

Year 5/6 Cross Country

On Friday afternoon the Year 5/6 children had their second practice run in the park. The distance run was approximately two thirds of the distance that will be covered on race day. We will not be going to the park again before race day however the children are encouraged to take an adult with them for some further practices between now and Thursday 12 August.

Thank you to the wonderful parents who have assisted us once again by being 'human cones'.

We welcome spectators at the race which will start after 9:15.
